Well, what could be better then watching a good movie? Knowing what moved the people who made the movie.

I really enjoyed this inside look at the cast of the movie who brought to the screen the troubled, funny and very recognizable characters of the Coen brothers' A Serious Man.

Well, as for me, personally - I can't wait to see Pirate Radio! Not only because I loved Love Actually, Four Weddings and A Funeral and liked Notting Hill... Liked. Only because the girl in me refused to believe that you can just walk in into a bookstore and bump into somebody looking like Hugh Grant. So that tainted the experience for me...Or maybe I haven't been to London bookstores yet, don't know...That's not the point though.

What I am trying to say is that I am super-excited about this movie not only because I love Richard Curtis's films and trust in him with all my film-loving heart, but because I have my own experience with a radio that defied government. I wasn't around in the 60's and so rock'n'roll came into its power without any of my avid participation, but I was around in late 70"s and early 80"s in the Soviet Union where I grew up.

We experienced our own Pirate Radio. My parents and their friends listened to the Voice of America and BBC, - hoarse sound hardly breaking through the impossible static, and listening to those stations was a highly illegal activity for anyone in the Soviet Union. I remember them sitting at the kitchen table with a radio placed in the middle, heads put closely together, their eyes shining, exchanging understanding glances without words (walls had ears), frustrated with the static, hungry for more information.

There was a great sense of purpose and closeness in this pursuit of what was made to be illegal but nevertheless was truthful and genuine.

We listened to the underground rock that was as illegal as it was soul-bearing, intense, passionate and addictive. We could be moved by this music but couldn't talk about it openly.

We could feel. But sharing the feeling was like what they put on liquor advertising now: "drink responsibly"... We had to share responsibly for you never knew for sure whom you were sharing with.

So a radio that doesn't care if it's forbidden or not as long as it's true to itself is close to my heart. Pirate Radio, I love you already.
