At the Wall Street Journal, Michael Specter's piece "The World of Wes Anderson" provides a very in-depth interview with MOONRISE KINGDOM's director about how and why he makes films. From how Anderson decided to become a filmmaker to the creative process in bringing a story to screen, the interview provides a fascinating look into the creative mind of one of film's most fascinating figures. There is also a great slide show illustrating Anderson's process. He explains that he first wanted to become an architect, only moving into film in college. But an architect's sense of style, order and structure is clearly present in his work. As he explains in his use of storyboards, "Once the script is finished, I have always done little storyboards--I have found over the years that I make more mistakes if I don't plan it out."

The music makes the man (or woman) for MOONRISE KINGDOM's music supervisor Randall Poster. To demonstrate this point, he's compiled playlists highlighting 8 characters from the Island of New Penzance on Pitchfork and 8Track.

The playlist from Sam & Suzy (Jared Gilman & Kara Hayward) sports, of course, romantic tunes from Charles Aznavour, Chuck Berry and The Rolling Stones. The trustworthy Scout Master Ward (Edward Norton) grooves on Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, but also, true to his quasi-military bearing, follows the beat of the unforgettable whistling "March from The River Kwai" done by Mitch Miller. The cool Cousin Ben (Jason Schwartzman) digs Lewis & The Playboys and the super pop "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" from Herman's Hermits - who were hitting it big in 1965. For the more staid, middle-aged Bishops (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand), there's Franz Allers conducting the overture to My Fair Lady and Glenn Gould playing Bach's Goldberg Variations. The down-to-earth Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis) shows a hankering for country with Webb Pierce and Buck Owens And The Buckeroos. And the narrator (Bob Balaban) is stirred by moonlight - you'll see what I mean. But these are just a few of the playlists.

It's a jaunty interview which covers a lot of ground and gives some lovely insights into the nature of the two young actors. When asked about Anderson as a director, the young Kara Hayward responded:

To be honest, when I was at the summer camps performing in plays, we -- the children who were acting -- ran the show. The director watched and if there was something that someone was doing wrong or not believable at all, he would just mention, "Okay, maybe you should do it this way." So Wes was the first director that I really worked with.

London's Evening Standard joined the legion of media outlets reporting on Wes Anderson's MOONRISE KINGDOM's opening night bow at the Cannes Film Festival. Earlier in the day, during the press conference, as the Standard reports, Wes Anderson commented:
