Wegman’s early work, minimalist/absurdist videos, (so dry and RIGOROUS and simultaneously hallucinogenically silly) have long been dear to me. And any film with an experimental relationship to an animal such as BEGINNERS walks in the shadow of Mr. Wegman.
His later, perhaps more familiar, stuff can be equally, mind-expandingly absurd, so specific to his timing and language and taste that it’s radical.
