It's been absolutely manic here, we've sold out every single show, including Paradjanov's Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors and Mambety's Hyenas (in a town of 11,000!), had to add second, even third screenings. We are overrun with fairy cakes and helium balloons, every film is introduced by mass audience wave-and-sing-alongs to classic hits of the movies, with cheerleaders Tilda Swinton and Mark Cousins precariously balanced on step ladders, holding aloft a huge flag proclaiming us to be in "The State of Cinema." Kenneth Anger turned up on Monday and declared our Ballerina Ballroom to be "like Caligari in Technicolor!" This is the most fun, hardest working, most culturally significant festival I have ever worked on, been to, heard of. Believe the hype. The upshot being that I have not had a second to write a blog...
