Back to the Castro
Posted October 29, 2008
This evening's premiere for MILK at the Castro Theatre was an amazing experience. Having lived in San Francisco all my life, having played hookie from high school the day Harvey Milk and George Moscone were killed by Dan White and seeing the film at the Castro and then going to City Hall for the post party, was a surreal evening to say the least. On the eve of Proposition 8 voting which eerily reflects the film's ordeals with the Briggs Initiative, Proposition 6, the rights of the GLBT community has moved ten steps forward, and hopefully not two steps back on November 4th. Gus captured the time and place of San Francisco's bygone era, blending history and art so lovingly and carefully. Being there at City Hall tonite, celebrating the life and work of Mr. Milk, makes me proud to still reside in this fine city.
