Shop & Swap

Posted July 27, 2011

Are you one to go shopping with friends? Before pulling out your credit card and heading to the mall, think of an environmentally sustainable strategy. This summer, organize a yard sale, or swap sale with a few of your friends. With all of your belongings put together, you will be sure to find some treasures as well as offer potential buyers a wider choice.  By re-using and recycling things rather than purchasing new items, you are helping the environment by reducing waste, as well as saving yourself a lot of money. This site helps you find other yard sales in your area.  You can also get some tips from the Yard Sale Queen.

One Book At A Time

Posted July 14, 2011

With extra time on your hands this summer, a great sustainable project is to clean out your bookshelves and donate used books to those in need. Focus Features LA has done some summer cleaning and donated their books to a Los Angeles based organization called “Books for People.” Your tax-deductible donation will help this organization raise funds for homeless children, libraries, and other charities in LA. The non-profit organization is also green, by aiming to keep books, CDs, and DVDs out of our landfills. If you have books to donate, look for similar organizations in your area!
