Ocean Friendly Seafood

Yellowfin Tuna, wild clams, and mahimahi received the highest rating while imported shrimp, farmed salmon, and Chilean sea bass ranked the lowest. Giving New Meaning to Cleaning

Claiming widespread consumer confusion, Whole Foods is introducing a tiered standard for household cleaners that will make it easier for consumers to understand which products are best for the environment. Called the Eco-Scale Rating System, Whole Foods has already rated 34 products. Keep up the great green work Whole Foods!

Keeping Movie Sets out of Landfills

Major film studios prevented 40 million pounds, or 66%, of studio sets and other solid waste from entering landfills last year alone. For instance, the NBCUniversal movie Hop prevented 34 tons of material, 85% of its location set waste, from ending up in a landfill. The Solid Waste Task Force, a joint program of the MPAA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, announced last year’s figure as the highest reported by studios since they began voluntary waste reduction programs 20 years ago!

Mandatory Recycling?

On its front page, TheGreenNews.Com asks as its Question of the Month, “Do you think recycling should be mandatory?”  The responses were a resounding “yes” even when considering the pros and cons of government mandated recycling.  The positives referenced the overwhelming environmental benefits while the negatives mainly related to added inconvenience.  What do you think?  See what others had to say here.

In honor of Earth Day the Clinton Foundation urged followers via Facebook to submit ways in which they have personally promoted a greener environment in their own communities.  The foundation selected the 10 best ideas and circulated them in a weekly newsletter.  Most ideas were simple, such as,  “When you see misplaced garbage, just pick up- even one handful- and throw it in the nearest trash bin. If ten people did it every day it would make our cities, parks and beaches a little cleaner. – Michael, Facebook”.
