Recycle Batteries

Posted May 31, 2011

recycle-batteries

In our Focus Features offices, we have special bins specifically for recycling batteries. (In NY, we use Veolia Environmental Services and in LA, we use Kinsbursky Brothers) This is important because if batteries are not properly disposed of, they leak toxins, like mercury, into landfills. Why not create a battery bin at your office? Batteries Plus is happy to collect your used batteries at their stores. To find a battery drop near you, visit Earth911.

E-Waste Recycling Now Law in NY

Posted May 23, 2011

e-waste-recycle

New York State has passed a law that requires electronics manufacturers to make it free for NY residents to recycle their old computers, televisions, and other gadgets. The new law will hopefully keep toxic materials like lead and mercury from ending up in landfills. At our offices, we have Green Disk bins to collect e-waste to send off to be properly recycled.  Hopefully more states will follow in NY’s green footsteps soon!

Hang 10 the Green Way

Posted May 16, 2011

surfboard

Kevin Cunningham, an avid surfer, artist and founder of surfboard design company Spirare, noticed a disturbing trend at the beach: a lot of trash was washing up on the shore. Instead of simply organizing a garbage pick-up of the shoreline, Cunningham decided to combine his love for art and surfing by designing surfboards using recycled beach debris. Cunningham hopes to debut a series of these recycled surfboards at galleries around the U.S., and will produce a limited edition of 100 boards for custom order. Visit Kickstarter.com to watch a brief video and to learn more about this creative cause!
