It's hard to put into words what last night meant to me. To be premiering Milk at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, on the very street where so many of the actual events took place exactly 30 years ago and with so many of Harvey's actual friends and associates in the audience, was completely thrilling and quite emotional. The parallels are stunning between the NO ON 6 campaign Harvey fought so hard for and won in 1978 and the NO ON 8 fight coming down to the wire this week in 2008, so to have so many NO ON 8 supporters across the street from the theater cheering us on, and to hear Mayor Newsom's inspiring words from the stage before the film really brought home for me that the human rights activism Harvey dedicated his life to is alive and well today. I am humbled and proud to be part of the amazing creative team that has brought this film to life, and so excited to watch the film spread Harvey's story and his message of hope and change to the world.
