Green Film
Kermit the Frog once declared, “It’s not that easy being green.” Or perhaps it is. While there have been films about ecological issues (think An Inconvenient Truth or The 11th Hour), producing environmentally friendly films is something else. Scott Macaulay reported in his article Away We Go Goes Green the ways in which Focus Features pushed environmentally friendlier filmmaking practices.
To discover more ideas on how to make filmmaking greener, we turned to the people who make movies. We’ve asked a range of independent directors to give us five ways they think that filmmakers (and the industry as a whole) could be more eco-conscious.
Offering their perspectives are directors Eileen Yaghoobian (Died Young, Stayed Pretty), Irena Salina (Flow: For the Love of Water), Joe Berlinger (Crude), Justin Schein (No Impact Man) and Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo), as well as Megan Griffiths & Alison Kelly, founders of the environmental consultancy Shoot It Green.
