DJs on Film
For the DJs of Pirate Radio, the music they play is everything. And, for the club DJs of today, it’s also true that their passion for the tracks they play is all-consuming. So while The Count, Dr. Dave and Midnight Mark don’t really engage with much beyond their on-air studio on the pirate radio ship, their modern equivalents are the superstar spinners who spend their lives shuttling from one glamour international location, working at night and sleeping in the day, and barely seeing the sunshine.
But everybody – regardless of what kind of lifestyle they have – goes to the movies. So, to celebrate the release of Pirate Radio, we reached out to some of our favorite DJs and asked them for their five favorite films about music. The first cinephiles to reply were DJ Brenda Black, a legendary New York-based spinner, and the influential producer and master of the decks RJD2.
