Five on Focus

Ian Inaba

Five Political News Sites

Ian Inaba is an acclaimed director, producer and writer, and a member of the Guerrilla News Network. His first feature-length documentary, American Blackout, which won the Special Jury Prize at Sundance 2006, revealed the recurring patterns of voter disenfranchisement that occurred during the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections. Inaba also directed Eminem's controversial music video, Mosh, and contributed to the GNN book, True Lies (Penguin, 2003).

  • Guerrilla News Network

Guerrilla News Network is a citizen journalism site that I have been involved with since just before the 2000 election. It's a great mix of news you don't or won't hear about on most other sites. Over the years it has provided me most of the story ideas for my film and video projects. Wait, did I just give up my source?

  • Bradblog

Brad Friedman is one of the top bloggers on electronic voting issues. Like all great bloggers he gives you the real deal with just enough attitude to keep you coming back for more.

  • Blackbox Voting

Bev Harris is the other top muckraker covering elections and electronic voting machines. I followed this woman around for about a year with a video camera and she never ceases to amaze me. She is honestly the only interview I've conducted that has ever gotten me choked up. A true patriotic citizen.

  • Alternet

Alternet.org is a news portal that gives you an alternative perspective on most major stories of the day. Good issue based coverage and pretty much a one-stop shop to keep you informed and mad as hell.

  • Dipdive

Well this is an effort after my own heart. We made Mosh in '04 to try and encourage young people to vote. It keeps me inspired to know that people still sometimes make things with a greater good in mind.
