Saoirse Ronan
Saoirse Ronan has won warm and widespread praise from critics and moviegoers alike for her performance in Atonement, which is only her third film. The 13-year-old actress was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs, and is up for the same award at the Academy Awards later this month. Because her character in Atonement, Briony, is a precocious writer, and because Ronan herself in set to appear in two further literary adaptations, City of Ember and Lovely Bones, we asked her to choose her five favorite children's books for us.

The Secret of Platform Thirteen
I like it because there's a BIG twist at the end, which I love, because you really have to think about what's going on and what happened earlier on in the book. And, of course, it has a happy ending!

Holes
I love this also because it has a twist. It also tells you the history of where the book is set. It's one of those books where, if one thing didn't happen, there wouldn't be a story.

Midnight
It's a very beautiful book, it's kind of like the making of fairytales! But yet, the main character doesn't really enjoy her life at home.

It's full of adventure, excitement and wonder! You're following Lina and Doon on an adventure that can change their lives and others. It also sends out a very good message about what might happen if we don't treat planet Earth the way it should be treated.

Is about twins, who everyone thinks is the same, but they and everyone else realises they are completely different.
