When we featured Washington D.C. as our Movie City, Peter Bowen wrote Presidential Projections, a fascinating piece on the movie tastes of actual presidents, and so it seems appropriate to link to an article which is almost a comic complement to that.
Over at SpoutBlog, listmaker extraordinaire Christopher Campbell has assembled the line-up of who he considers to be the 10 Coolest Film Presidents, a fine selection which contains two performances which I particularly enjoy, namely Lloyd Bridges as Tug Benson in Hot Shots! Part Deux and Jack Nicholson as James Dale in Tim Burton's underrated Mars Attacks! See the trailer below for some of Nicholson's great moments in the film, including when he turns the simplest of lines ("...And that ain't bad!") into comic gold.
While I'm on the subject of politics, I should point you in the direction of two other (much more serious) politically tinged blog pieces. At CINEBEATS, Kimberly looks back at Godard's visit to NYU in 1968 to discuss his new film, La Chinoise, while at his own website Jonathan Rosenbaum considers the cinematic legacy of the George W. Bush years.
