Treating some types of infections caused by certain bacteria. Penicillin G Potassium is a penicillin antibiotic. It works by interfering with the formation of the bacteria's cell wall while it is growing. This weakens the cell wall and kills the bacteria.

Before using Penicillin G Potassium:

Some medical conditions may interact with Penicillin G Potassium. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances if you have diarrhea or a stomach infection, especially in children 9 years old or younger Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Penicillin G Potassium. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following: Chloramphenicol, guar gum, or tetracycline antibiotics because they may decrease Penicillin G Potassium's effectiveness Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), heparin, or methotrexate because their actions and the risk of their side effects may be increased by Penicillin G Potassium Aminoglycosides (eg, gentamicin), anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), chloramphenicol, oral contraceptives (birth control pills), or oral typhoid vaccine because their effectiveness may be decreased by Penicillin G Potassium This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Penicillin G Potassium may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Penicillin G Potassium:

Use Penicillin G Potassium as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Penicillin G Potassium is usually given as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. If you will be using Penicillin G Potassium at home, a health care provider will teach you how to use it. Be sure you understand how to use Penicillin G Potassium. Follow the procedures you are taught when you use a dose. Contact your health care provider if you have any questions. Do not use Penicillin G Potassium if it contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged. Penicillin G Potassium works best if it is given at the same time each day. Penicillin G Potassium is injected into a muscle. Penicillin G Potassium should not be injected into or near an artery or vein. To clear up your infection completely, use Penicillin G Potassium for the full course of treatment. Keep using it even if you feel better in a few days. Keep this product, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and pets. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Ask your health care provider how to dispose of these materials after use. Follow all local rules for disposal. If you miss a dose of Penicillin G Potassium and you are using it regularly, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. Possible side effects of Penicillin G Potassium:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome: Black or hairy tongue; exaggerated reflexes; mild diarrhea; nausea or vomiting; pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site; twitching.
