Six projectionists and theater managers give us their five favorite movies.
The Dark Knight
This was pretty much the perfect movie. Comic book movies usually are too heavy in action and forget the importance of having a good story there are few exceptions to this and The Dark Knight is definitely the greatest. From really making you care about the characters to dragging you deep in to the inner workings of the Gotham crime scene, this movie really wowed me.
The Departed
Full of twists and turns. All of the acting in this movie is on a tremendous level. The way Scorsese followed two stories at the same time was perfect. I love this movie.
The Fall
This has got to be the most visually beautiful movie that I have ever seen. From the visuals to the costumes to the deeply imaginative story, this movie really takes you to a world that you could never imagine.
Anything by Hayao Miyazaki
From Nausicaä to Princess Monoke to Spirited Away to Howl's Moving Castle, Hayao has never let me down – his movies are very beautiful and his imagination is incredible. As an artist, I really appreciate how everything in his movies is hand drawn in a world were everything is going CGI.
Eastern Promises
This movie was so brutal and raw I loved every moment. Viggo Mortensen's performance was by far the best I've seen from him.
