FilmInFocus heralds the start of 2010 by embracing New Year’s positivity with a series of Five in Focus articles from life coaches.
The Matrix
Great action flick and styling that grabs your attention. Beautifully captures the sensation we are all subconsciously aware of: There is a matrix. We are in it. There are higher levels of consciousness and realization. There is a red pill and a blue pill...Which are you taking?
Vanilla Sky
Gives your mind and heart a ride while at the same time challenging your sense of reality. Who are you really? What does it really mean to be living, anyway? The lucid dreaming theme is one I love, as I practice lucid dreaming at night and lucid living during the day.
Waking Life
On the lucid dreaming theme! Brilliantly captures the surreal experience of lucid dreaming and changing levels of consciousness, while at the same time giving your logical mind plenty to consider.
The Terminator
I am not sure why this movie is on my list. All I know is I've come back to it time and time again as an old favorite that leaves me entranced. Human will to survive? Conscious vs. unconscious forces? Courage vs. fear? The dangers of logic (technology) minus the heart factor? Yes, it's got all that...But really it's just a great flick.
Avatar
One thing I've noticed about this movie...You've got to let yourself go a little bit to get the benefits. If you fully allow yourself to be pulled into the story (and with the visual effects, you are actively resisting if you are not!), you'll experience a wonderful treat for your heart, soul and spirit. It will remind you of who you are and how you are meant to be living. Never has connected vs. not-connected been so beautifully illustrated. Hint: If your life is working great, you are connected, if it's not, you're not.

Michele Caron: As a coach, I provide people with the tools for personal transformation, and I love movies that do the same. There are movies I've loved that are more complex than those you'll see on my list, but I think the greatest movies provide a convenient and powerful framework for your own growth: The depth comes from your end as the viewer. These are movies that I come back to for repeated self-realization and growth.
