The passing of a great film composer.
Composer Maurice Jarre died Sunday March 29 in Los Angeles at the age of 84. Best known for his scores for such David Lean classics as Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zhivago and A Passage to India––for which he won an Oscar––he had worked consistently for many decades, influencing a whole new generation of composers. Alexandre Desplat (who scored Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution) told CNN, "Maurice was an immense artist, an incredible symphonist, a magician of the melody and a benevolent human being." The Los Angeles Times posted a 1993 interview Jarre did with Susan King.
