For many film producers, the recent economic fallout has turned off the flow of capital for independent productions. Indie film consultant Jeff Dowd recently told Bloomberg News, “People are having a harder time getting money at the $500,000, $1 million level than they were a year ago.”  But Killer Films, the company behind such hits as Far From Heaven and Boys Don’t Cry, is stepping up, rather than down. According to Variety, Killer Films “has sold a 50% equity stake to New York-based venture capital fund GC Corp.” What this means for Killer’s heads Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler is that they’ll be thinking bigger, rather than smaller, in the near future. Adi Cohen for CG points out, “the average Killer movie has been anywhere between $6 million to $15 million.” But with this new capitalization, Cohen explains, "We'll seek to increase those budgets to $40 million to $50 million." The two companies are currently putting together a big-budget epic on William the Conqueror.
