Andre Madness' Five Favorite Romantic Comedies

Can't Buy Me Love (1987)

Can't Buy Me Love (1987)

It's one of the movies I grew up with. I remember it as one of the films I really liked back in the '80s, which was a golden age for teen movies. I thought Patrick Dempsey's character was someone every guy who saw the movie could identify with, which made the story that much more believable.

The Guru (2002)

The Guru (2002)

An amazing blend of Eastern and Western cultures, with a great cast — you can't go wrong with Marisa Tomei and Heather Graham. I also thought the movie's mix of porn and religion was something you don't see too often and something that wouldn't even be touched in most cases.

3
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

This was one of Heath Ledger's best roles. It's an extremely enjoyable movie, but as someone who read lots of Shakespeare in college, the fact that it's a well-made take on The Taming of the Shrew takes it to another level.

4
Shrek (2001)

Shrek (2001)

This was one of the first animated movies I bought and watched over and over again. It's a genuinely funny movie that anyone can enjoy and it's one of the better movies Mike Meyers and Eddie Murphy's done in the '00s, with the trappings of a romantic fairy tale.

5
The Princess Bride (1987)

The Princess Bride (1987)

A true gem of a movie from the '80s that works on so many levels, including as a romcom. It's one of those films everyone gets around to seeing and should be considered an '80s classic. Besides, Andre the Giant's in the movie and really, how can any movie go wrong with Andre the Giant?
