It's been absolutely manic here, we've sold out every single show, including Paradjanov's Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors and Mambety's Hyenas (in a town of 11,000!), had to add second, even third screenings. We are overrun with fairy cakes and helium balloons, every film is introduced by mass audience wave-and-sing-alongs to classic hits of the movies, with cheerleaders Tilda Swinton and Mark Cousins precariously balanced on step ladders, holding aloft a huge flag proclaiming us to be in "The State of Cinema." Kenneth Anger turned up on Monday and declared our Ballerina Ballroom to be "like Caligari in Technicolor!"
