I’ve been the Vice President of Global Operations for Focus Features since the company’s inception in 2002. This means I oversee the day-to-day operations in all three of our offices (New York, Los Angeles, and London). It entails creating and implementing company policies, strategic employee initiatives, tracking the overhead budget, managing screenings and events for our staff, and maintaining the company infrastructure. In a way, I produce a show called Focus Features... sort of like what a line producer does on set when a film is being shot.
I’m leading Focus’ environmentally friendly Green initiatives, called Focus On Green. You can check out our Green efforts, and everything to do with cinema, at www.FilmInFocus.com.
Outside of work, I’m a big fan of altruism. So I’m also a proud board member of Lollipop Theater Network, which brings first-run movies to hospitalized children facing chronic and life-threatening illness. Check out the organization at www.lollipoptheater.org
Earlier in my career, I worked for October Films and USA Films, which were later absorbed into Focus Features. Essentially, I’ve been involved with the film industry for as long as I have lived in Manhattan, which is 12 years. Prior to film, I was in advertising and banking. Prior to that, I attended San Jose State University, where I majored in business and minored in psychology. I grew up in San Francisco and other parts of the Bay Area.
In my “free” time I enjoy all things cycling; biking around town, down the Hudson River path, Central Park, etc., in addition to taking spin classes at the gym. I also enjoy reading, although generally not at the same time as cycling. Some of my favorite books are North River, A Confederacy of Dunces, The Catcher in the Rye, Little Children, Bel Canto and To Kill A Mockingbird. I have lots of favorite movies, so instead of naming them, I’ll give you my favorite directors representing a body of work: Alfred Hitchcock, Pedro Almodovar, Roman Polanski, the Coen Brothers, Alexander Payne, Wes Anderson, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and Walter Salles.
My favorite vacation spot is, hands down, Sardinia in Italy - especially the town of Cagliari and its nearby Chia Beach. Chia is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. I dream of going there every day! Trips I have yet to take, but really want to are: Morocco, Costa Rica, Copenhagen, Iceland, Prague, and Japan.
